Ignorance or Arrogance?

Friday 2nd December 2005 (Extracted LiveJournal Article)

I read the cause of the current disastrous state of life on earth is bound by the lack of knowledge about reality, and their cause and effect.

I must make notice I find this notion quite hard to believe. It is quite logical, but the notion the very reason the human race is destroying the earth is because we do not know the systems involved and therefore the consequence of our actions as the reason behind our actions doesn’t seem credible.

We as a species may not know in total entirety the exact and complete system of reality, including all such things part of, including earths eco-systems, meteorology, cosmology and all others included; but we as a species even now understand our current actions if not the single cause of earth’s diminishing state is a major contributor to such things and that as a species we do know better!

I believe, our actions are derived from our arrogance and greed, and our unwillingness to give up our treasures and make sacrifices to our lifestyle to better the environment and humanity as a whole. Even with perfect knowledge, unless we overcome these cancers of society we will never overcome our short-falls and we could furthermore bury ourselves and make our predicament even more ugly and cost-worthy.

I find it very disappointing that major corporations refuse to make sufficient changes to their productive systems to compensate for their influence environmentally and socially. Why must total evidence be provided to show proof that what we all as a species on this planet is doing is wrong and will cost us, if not now but later. Must we wait until things become irreversible and we finally realise our mistakes because we are all now paying for it.

Our actions do not simply imply influences on just environmental issues but also pass over onto social trends as well. Commercialism and Capitalism has bestowed a social norm implying major rules or standards on lifestyle and the meaning of ones life. Current trends within today’s society are presenting great problems for today’s youth. No form of effective discipline exists with no realistic basis on lifestyle. Also the competitive nature of today’s education systems are selling many students short and implying success is only for those that do not fail, or meet the grades.

We are only teaching life is all about money and possessions and placing restrictions on the success of all individuals. Such ‘failures’ would then by my opinion create complacency and acceptance of the rules of society as a truly complete means to approaching our lives.

Education is very important. I believe our tenancies towards possessions over knowledge as the reason for being is going to have dramatic effects not just on our environment but also on all future generations.
